This page summarizes the results of tests performed by the Isabel people at UPM regarding WebCam support in the Linux distributions used more frequently for running Isabel 4.10. The test have been limited to the webcams available and are only indicative of some supported webcams.
A more complete list can be found at the Ubuntu wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport for general hardware support and the wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsMultimediaWebCameras for WebCam support.

Note: some of these cameras misfunction when connected to a USB hub. In such case, please connect it to a USB port. Notice than some frontal USB sockets can be USB hubs, rather than USB ports. In such case, change the camera to another USB port.
Note: many moderns webcams (as the Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro) support the USB Device Class Definition for Video Devices, or USB Video Class, a.k.a. UVC, which defines video streaming functionality on the Universal Serial Bus. There is a driver at BerliOS, in which the source code can be downloaded, compiled and loaded. A complete list of supported cameras as UVC can be found here.
